From fashion to interior decorating, Queen West is home to a myriad of specialty fabric, yarn and sewing accessories' stores to accommodate your artistic desires. Whether you are in fashion school, have your own interior decorating business or you are just tired of your old window coverings, look no further. Here are a few of our favorite textile, notions and supplies stores in the city.

Americo is home to its own line of fine yarns, textiles, trims, jewellery, patterns and knitwear. Don't know how to knit? Now's the time. They offer free knitting classes every Sunday between the hours of 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Because of the high demand, they recommend you drop by a day or two before to buy your supplies and register for the class. They also have a drop in knitting night every Tuesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Be sure to check out their schedule.

One of Toronto's renowned fashion textile stores, Designer Fabric outlet has every imaginable fabric available. On the first floor there is fabric for home decorating whether you need to re-upholster your tired sofas or select a beautiful sheer for that dining room window. they have it! If you are a fashion designer or student the second level houses rolls of quality fabrics from silks to wools suitable for any design. Can't choose that perfect fabric right away? Don't worry they will let you borrow up to eight samples at no charge, as long as you return them. Don't forget the credit card, because they will need an imprint to charge you if you selfishly decide to keep the samples. Can't make it to the store... you can shop online!

If you are looking for fine Italian wools, cashmere, French lace or jeweled/sequined silks L.A. Fabrics, is the 'go to' store. There is not a massive selection of fabrics, but you are guaranteed a great selection and quality. If you need some fabric for a great pair of dress pants, or a beautiful evening dress, you must check out this store. Be prepared to spend $40.00/metre and up for wool/cashmere blends and over $100.00/metre for that beautiful French lace.

Just west of Queen and Bathurst you will come across the ultra cool Mac Fab Fabrics which was formerly known as MacDonald Faber. This is the store to check out if you are looking for buttons, zippers, trims, needles, interfacings and other goodies for making clothes, costumes and drapery. They also have a wonderful selection of fabrics for apparel and interiors which mean you are pretty much guaranteed to find what you are after. Think of it as a one stop sewing shop.

Are you looking for that special ribbon or trim to decorate a piece of clothing or to add a nice finishing tough to those special invitations?
