Perez Hilton Talks About His Upcoming Tour And Toronto
Interviews - Toronto Music Scene
By: Christopher Turner
Perez Hilton
He’s been manning Hollywood’s most hated website since 2004 bringing celeb gossip and daily happenings in Hollywood to the gossip lovers around the world. Well Perez Hilton aka Mario Armando Lavandeira is no longer a one hit wonder. Yes there is Perezhilton.com but there is also his nationally syndicated radio show Radio Perez and his brand new celeb fashion site Cocoperez.com. In July Perez announced that he would be taking his love of music to the next level in collaboration with Warner Brothers by starting up a record label imprint called Perezcious Records.  His first signee… Sliimy a quirky French singer who's bringing some seriously quirky pop.

Following the record label launch the celeb gossip gangsta has unveiled the first leg of his inaugural Perez Hilton Presents Tour which is stopping in Toronto this fall. There’s a stellar lineup including: Ladyhawke, Ida Maria and Semi Precious Weapons who are all set to take over the Opera House on Queen Street on Thursday September 17th.

Before the tour hits Toronto, we had the chance to have a quick chat with the "Queen of all Media" about the upcoming tour, his numerous ventures and his thoughts on Toronto. Here's what he had to say:

ETO: Ladyhawke, Ida Maria and Semi Precious Weapons all hit the Opera House on Thursday September 17th as a part of the “Perez Hilton Presents Tour”... What can audiences expect from your inaugural tour?
Perez Hilton: They can expect a lot of sweating because they’re gonna be dancing and moshing and having an awesome time. All of these performers are so amazing live and it’s really going to be a very, very special evening.

ETO: Give us a couple words on each of the scheduled Toronto performers...
Perez Hilton: Ida Maria: Is brash, bold and fearless. She kinda scares me live, but I like it. She really brings a raw intensity to her performances.
Ladyhawke: Cool, hip, fun, dance-rock, throwback, love.
Semi-Precious Weapons: Glam rock, New York City, in your face. Prepare yourselves.

ETO: I noticed that there is no Sliimyon the Toronto lineup? Why no Sliimy on the Toronto stop?
Perez Hilton: Unfortunately he’s in really high demand right now, so we were only able to get him for a few dates. His album is exploding in the UK now so I hope the same happens in America and Canada. But, he’ll definitely be back for his own tour within the next 12 months.

ETO: Speaking of Sliimy... Congrats on Perezcious Records. What are the next steps for the record label?
Perez Hilton: Well, I’ve already signed a bunch of other artists which I’m so excited about and I cant wait to share them with the world. But unfortunately I cant do that just yet.

ETO: Since you are becoming increasingly known for drawing attention to musicians... Who should we be listening to right now? What’s on your iPod play-list?
Perez Hilton: Sliimy!

ETO: Your favourite songs of all time?
Perez Hilton: Holiday by Madonna! Precious Thing by Tori Amos! I can only think of those two right now.

ETO: Any Canadian artists you’re in love with?
Perez Hilton: A bunch! In fact, some of the artists I’m talking to about signing to my label are Canadian.

ETO: You're no stranger to Toronto. Do you have any favourite spots here in the city?
Perez Hilton: Well I’m really excited that the Park Hyatt now has wireless internet. That’s probably the place I know the best. Though next time I’m in town, I really wanna try and hit up some gay bars.

ETO: What’s next for Perez?
Perez Hilton: Well, I’m really focusing on growing my new website, CocoPerez.com, which is where celebrity meets fashion. It’s my new fashion blog and I really love working on it.

ETO: Any final words for Toronto?
Perez Hilton: I love Toronto, I love Torontonians, I love Canada. I always have, I always will. They were the first to really embrace me and they will always have a special place in my heart.
